| First, we were up early and walked out through Baker to get some views of the sunrise. Then we were off to the Kelso Dunes for a walk before the day was too hot. | |
| The dunes rise about 700 feet above the surrounding desert. The directions said to follow the trail until it petered out, then head for the saddle to the right of the highest dune. | |
| There were lots of "critter" tracks, ripples, and interesting shadows of the plants in the sand. | |
| Getting into the dunes, their shapes became more evident. Some vegetation is present even near the top. | |
| Taking a photo through somewhat rosy sunglasses gives a different color to the sand. | |
| Climbing higher, the dune edges were even more dramatic. | |
| Don headed for the top of the highest dune, while I opted to sit instead of going up the narrow edge. Besides, I could get a better photo this way! | |

He reached the top, and said the views were great from up there. |
